Xeritown

Dubailand, UAE
2007

The urban master plan is composed of a number of dense urban clusters located within a unique landscaped setting. An urban promenade is surrounding the clusters and connects them with each other. It ties together the urban program of café, restaurants, lobbies and retail on the one side of the boulevard and the landscape on the other. The urban sun shade, an elegant roof structure that might include PV panels combined with flowing water channels, turns the promenade into a place for strolling, sitting in a cafe or doing window shopping. Narrow shaded alleyways lead into the core of the clusters in the case of the largest cluster to an open souk. The urban fabric is formed by triplex apartments, Arabian courtyard villas, and apartments of varying heights that create the iconic new skyline of the Paramount. Each of the parcels benefits from the close relation to the landscape by the improved micro climate and the grand vistas. The landscape is one of the main attractions of the development that can be explored via a jogging and cycling track running through it. Additional programs like the public library, the desert museum as well as the mosque turn the Paramount to a destination of its own right with an urban flair and close ties to sports and a characteristic local landscape.
