The Royal Commission for Riyadh City developed a Vision to increase green coverage in Riyadh and defined the purpose and objectives of the ”Green Riyadh” Strategy. The program aims to strategically increase the quality and quantity of all vegetation in both urban and suburban setting. The Airport Park is part of the overall transformation of Riyadh that is taking place through several mega projects and it will ensure cohesion with other major projects in Riyadh and Vision 2030.

The Riyadh Airport Park is located in a governmental and airport area, located at the north eastern edge of the city and adjacently to a large residential land use with nearby educational institutions.

The park is not perceived as one space but as an interlaced sequence of different landscapes, linked and marked by a single generating element: the past and present,  water of the underground Wadi that meets and re-emerges from the underground intertwining with the arid soil, and gives life to the primary framework of the park, the green blue infrastructure. This essential network of connection also acts as ecosystem corridors and generators of new landscapes.

The morphology of the park is structured precisely starting from the ecological multi-functionality of the green blue infrastructures, in a spatiality that outlines four large theme/ thematic parks which are connected with three large bridges. The bridges activate the park with dynamic, multifunctional and experimental spaces which include Residential Units, Museum & Visitor Center, and a Concert/Performing Art Center, and Offices. These spaces activate various surrounding communities and provide diverse programs and offerings such as cultural, social, play, contemplation, and work functions.
