Al Bateen Master Plan
Abu Dhabi, UAE / 2018
The currently unused coastline of Al Bateeen extends for approximately one and a half kilometers and is located between Abu Dhabi and Hudariyat Island.
The surrounding area in the eastern region of the coastline has a low residential population and lacks the basic requirements of a successful urban master plan design. There are no attractive public areas, nor enough programs to accommodate its diverse demographic fabric. As a result, the area is vacant and deserted despite its beautiful location and proximity to the sea.
The vision of the proposed master plan relies on generating vast amount of diverse architecture and urban programs to create a dynamic platform for human interaction and use. Along the beach, a waterfront has been designed to include a resort, an art center, retail shops, sea sports center, and a pier on the coastline. The programs are arranged vertically towards the sea which creates an interconnected horizontal urban fabric and natural flow of movement.
